Thailand Goes Digital on Medical Cannabis Exports — And Why That Matters to B2B Buyers
Article by Elephant Cann | GACP-Certified Indoor Medical Cannabis Farm, Bangkok, Thailand
Thailand’s medical cannabis export market has quietly become a real business, not a side story. Cumulative export value has now passed THB 2.566 billion (roughly USD 71 million) across more than 201,658 kilograms, and the government just took a step that will make life considerably easier for exporters and the buyers who depend on them.
What’s changing: DTAM Next meets the National Single Window
The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine (DTAM) is integrating its “DTAM Next” platform with the Customs Department’s National Single Window (NSW) — the country’s central hub for exchanging trade data and documents electronically. In practice, this means the export notification process for controlled herbs (the Por.Tor.32 form) is moving off paper entirely. Once the integration is live, exporters will file everything digitally through DTAM Next, and the data will flow straight into the NSW system without a single physical document changing hands.
What exporters and buyers can expect
- Faster turnaround: processing time drops from 5-7 working days down to just 1-2 working days
- Far less paperwork: an estimated 1,200-2,400 fewer documents per year
- Tighter security: digital records make document forgery much harder, and applications can be tracked in real time
- Lower overhead: less travel, less admin, less friction for exporters trying to move product on schedule
Why this matters if you’re sourcing from Thailand
If you’ve ever tried to plan a shipment around a government approval window, you know that a 5-7 day wait can throw off everything downstream — production timing, logistics, even how your own customers get supplied. Shrinking that window to 1-2 days gives exporters (and the partners buying from them) a much tighter, more predictable supply chain.
There’s also a trust dimension here. A digital, forgery-resistant approval system gives international buyers — particularly in regulated markets like the EU — more confidence that the paperwork behind a shipment is exactly what it claims to be. That kind of traceability is increasingly non-negotiable for serious B2B buyers, and it’s a direction Thailand’s cannabis sector is clearly leaning into.
Where Elephant Cann fits in
Elephant Cann is a GACP-certified (Good Agricultural and Collection Practices) indoor cannabis farm based in Bangkok, verified under SGS and DTAM standards. Every crop is backed by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) from an independent lab — not an in-house sign-off. That’s the standard we build the business around: verifiable agricultural practice, verifiable lab results, nothing taken on faith.
We track regulatory developments like this DTAM–NSW integration closely, because our export partners need to know that sourcing from us means a smooth, well-documented, on-time process — not a guessing game.
We’re looking for serious B2B partners ready to source medical cannabis from a supplier that can actually prove it.
Elephant Cann is an indoor GACP-certified farm producing medical cannabis with independently verified COAs on every batch. If you’re looking for a Thai supplier you can build a long-term export relationship with — not just a one-off shipment — we want to talk.
The DTAM Next–NSW integration is just one piece of a broader push to bring Thailand’s controlled herb industry up to international standards — faster, more transparent, more accountable. For buyers evaluating where to source medical cannabis, that trajectory matters as much as any single harvest.
